  • Academics and Practitioners: Get Recognized with the Carl Menconi Ethics Case Competition

IMA’s Committee on Ethics—in cooperation with Raef Lawson, Ph.D., CMA, CPA, IMA® (Institute of Management Accountants) vice president of research and policy and IMA’s professor-in-residence—encourages you (or a team of authors) to enter IMA’s seventh annual Carl Menconi Ethics Case Writing Competition. The deadline for submissions is January 26, 2015.

In memory of Carl Menconi, who served as the chair of the IMA Committee on Ethics, this competition was created to develop and distribute cases focusing on business ethics with specific application to management accounting and finance issues. The cases should be suitable for either undergraduate or graduate classroom use and must utilize IMA’s Statement of Ethical Professional Practice as a guidance tool/reference.

In addition to providing a useful teaching tool for students studying ethics, the winning case will be featured in Strategic Finance and the case author or author team will be recognized during the Awards Dinner at IMA’s 96th Annual Conference & Exposition in Los Angeles, Calif., in June 2015. The winner will also receive one complimentary registration to the Conference and a $500 cash prize.

IMA members and nonmembers are welcome to submit entries. Please submit entries to Raef Lawson via e-mail at
