The IMA fees are quite reasonable when compared to CPA or ACCA or CIA. It is a relatively small body which despite criticisms is putting its best foot forward in the face of near insurmountable odds. There is no professional accounting body today that could challenge the AICPA/NASBA today and win.
The next largest body, the CAs of India is about 192K in membership. A large number of mediocre members is hardly a commendable objective for the IMA.
Frankly, what makes the US CPA rather exclusive is not only the academic requirement but the financial commitment as well.
We have state license fees, the state CPA institute fees, the AICPA membership fees and the attendant fees that go with specialization. e.g. Tax, Fraud Accounting, IT, Management Accounting.
So there is a need to qualify academically and financially to enjoy the benefits of membership. Good things are usually not cheap.

IMA dues

IMA annual fees are almost $ 250 and trick is that we have to attend ethics webinar also. Ethics series is not covered through regular monthly webinar. So we have to pay almost 50 to 60 $ extra. I think IMA is charging too much either ethics related training should also be covered through regular monthly webinar or ethics related mandatory training must be waived. IMA member ship alone is not globally recognized as compared to other globally recognized Institutes (i.e. AICPA, ACCA, ICAEW etc.) so we have to pay other institutes fees also to maintain our global membership.  It is bitter truth that in spite of very good knowledge based course and competitive exam IMA has failed to get global recognition. Any how we want IMA to seriously revamp its marketing campaign and reduce its annual charges to have healthy increase in members.
