As October begins, I wanted to share that our chapter has moved from 77th to 44th place in the IMA Chapter Competition as of August 2015.This significant jump is a direct result of the hard work that the board has put in and from your participation….so thank you all! I would also like to thank our September speakers from PwC, Jeff Mandler and Jared Schreff, for a great presentation on some of the ways high performing finance units are breaking away from the competition. They provided some great insights and some interesting case studies.
As we fall into October, this month is shaping up to have many valuable continuing education sessions to help propel your career. I would like to invite you and everyone in your network to our joint event with UNLV’s Beta Alpha Psi and the Wild West Council on October 16 as we have a “Spotlight on Technology.” Click the event flyer on our website for more information and to register. I would also like to invite everyone out to our dinner event on October 27 as we learn more about “Becoming More Data Driven – Analytics and the Role of Finance” from Rick Arpin, SVP Data Strategy & Arena Operations for MGM Resorts International. Every person I speak with is really looking forward to this event so make sure you register early at our website!
As part of my message each month, I discuss different ways I partner with IMA to build my story and career. This month, I would like to highlight the “Moments that Matter” leadership blog. This blog is written by some of IMA’s leaders and designed to take you into the minds and lives of those leaders. With the insights provided, I learn new ways of thinking or rekindle ways of thinking that fell aside with the pace of today’s world. The blog posts are not long so they take a small amount of time to read but the ideas or reminders you get can help propel your career forward. Some of the posts from this past month included “The Elevator (Pitch) of Success”, “Don’t Neglect the Soft Skills”, and “How You Can Become an Influencer”.
