Hi William.
To those who have stuck in a company you have described. Person should continue putting hard work in a focused direction. Never be a part or creator of such situation. Try to promote culture of good practices with some live examples / case story and create a positivity in the environment. Make someone happy, contributing and part of the team working.
Things will sahpe as we desire with help of high level of patience.

Mentoring Mondays-What’s Scarier? Halloween or Poor Morals

By William Kernan posted 10-20-2014 08:28 PM

Happy Mentoring Young Professionals!

As Halloween approaches we are reminded of all the things that scared us as a child. Scary characters (e.g. ghosts, goblins, witches) and scary movies that kept us on the edge of our seats or hiding under the blankets! Well, we are no longer children and many of us are no longer afraid of the “dark.”  But there is still something that scares me… that is working for a company that hires employees with poor morals. What is even scarier is when your supervisor or upper management condones bad behavior as long as someone benefits… and by someone, I mean your supervisor or upper management!

Working at a company that sets low morals as a standard is truly like working in a graveyard, you never know when something might come back to haunt you! It also

  1. Makes doing the right thing hard (if employees aren’t rewarded for doing the right thing, will they even try? Especially if their supervisor is doing the wrong thing?)
  2. Builds walls between departments (low morals = poor communication skills = inefficient collaboration between departments)
  3. Creates opportunity to steal/embezzle (if upper management is rotten, their employees will learn and apply their behavior to get to the top. Even if that means taking what does not belong to them)
  4. & so much more!!!

What is even scarier is for some there is usually no way out of the company! Some people are stuck working in poor cultures. So, what advice do we have for our peers that are stuck working in spooky companies? How can they get out of the graveyard shift and into a company that promotes moral behavior? What signs should employees looks for when interviewing or currently on the job?

Please feel free to share your thoughts & experiences so our members can learn & grow!

Kind Regards,
