    Hello,

which is the better program to pick after completing CMA? Would CPA be good or MBA or any other program?

CPA if you already have the education requirements to sit for the exam. Since you have the CMA cert, you should have enough for the experience requirement as they are somewhat the same.

I would double check with the AICPA site to make sure you can sit for the exam though.

The AICPA will likely refer you to the state.  Although the CPA exam is uniform, education and experience requirements are not.  There is a movement to make them more uniform, but that is not currently the case.  Most states now require credits in excess of what a typical bachelor degree would provide.  By the time most candidates acquire the credits, they are so close to having a masters degree that most would decided to get one.

I live in PA,  some new CPA will still have bachelor degrees, but that is because they passed a section before the requirement went into place so they are grandfathered.  PA has also recently changed the experience requirements so that they are in line with most other states.

I think MBA is more beneficial and more prestigious in the job mareket unless you are going to parctice a CPA, so you have to have a license by getting a CPA certification.

    Hi
Since IMA and ACCA are in strategic patnership, ACCA is going to be a good option....

Monica is right about looking at the state requirements.  I live in Texas and when I was looking into pursuing CPA licensing I did some research.  The educational credits required are just shy of getting a masters degree and there was a limit on how many could be online courses.  The experience requirements is what changed my direction.  In Texas they are written in such a way that you almost have to work for an audit and tax firm.  There was a way to get the experience while working at a private corporation, but you had to report directly to a current and up to date licensed CPA and they had to willing to vouch for your experience and time frame was longer versus the public firm.

    Thanks all for replies!

I believe MBA is a good program but unless you take it up from a known institute, otherwise, I have seen people ending up at a level, which a non MBA could have excelled and achieved. (no offence!)
CPA has a requirement to work under a CA, which in current scenario would be difficult for me. But ACCA does not require a person practice under a CA, however how good it hold as a qualification is it worth going after it.

So e.g. in my case,  I have MBA major in finance from UK Univ and I have around 16 years experience out of which 11 to 12 in accounting/finance and around 7 plus years as Finance Manager.

However, I never worked for an audit firm or under CA.

Does that mean it is impossible for me to do CPA?

I think you can still take the CPA exam, but you won't get a license until you work for a licensed CPA for one year.

Check your state's requirements. I am not a CPA but I have certified two employees who have worked under me before for the work experience.
