Two (2) CPE hours for both CMAs and CPAs are provided. Attendees must sign in and out and be present for the presentation in order to receive CPE credit.  CPE certificates will be sent in an email for those who have met the requirements.

About the Speaker: 

James (Jim) Olan Hutcheson is Managing Partner and Founder of the family business consulting firm, ReGENERATION Partners. Mr. Hutcheson has more than 30 years of “hands-on” business management and family business consulting experience. As a consultant, Mr. Hutcheson offers the uncommon balance of experience in both the theoretical and practical applications of consulting. ReGENERATION Partners is devoted exclusively to increasing shareholder value and improving communication in family enterprises. Since founding the firm, Jim has advised more than 130 families across a wide range of industries on how to resolve conflict, plan for and implement succession, increase operational performance, and put appropriate systems and structures in place to enhance operations and prevent problems. Additionally, Jim serves as a business coach through mentoring future leaders. Jim’s family has owned and been actively involved in the daily management of two family businesses: Olan Mills, Inc., the world’s premier photographic company, and Peerless Woolen Mills, later a division of Burlington Industries. In addition to degrees in Psychology, Sociology, and a Masters in Business Administration, Jim has received an Honorary Doctorate of Laws. Jim belongs to The Family Firm Institute (FFI) where he has served on the board of directors, chair of the annual conference, and has been awarded Fellow status by his peers. Through FFI, Jim has been awarded the Richard Beckhard Practice Award, the highest recognition for practice within the field of Family Enterprise. Jim has been honored with the Outstanding Business Leader Award from Northwood University, where he also serves as a Trustee and Chairman of the Texas Board of Governors. Further, Jim and his firm, ReGENERATION Partners, have been awarded the Greater North Texas Business Ethics Award and were finalists for the American Business Ethics Award. Technical Session - Role of the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act (“FCPA”) in Heels Over Head by Clay G. Small, JD (Professor, Cox School of Business) 

In this session, we will discuss the following:

  • Role of the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act (“FCPA”) in Heels Over Head.
  • Brief history of FCPA.
  • Specific provisions of FCPA.
  • Examples of FCPA enforcement.
  • FCPA accounting provisions.
  • Are American companies unfairly impacted by FCPA?    
  • Recent enforcement expansion.
  • How to avoid violations.

This program will consist of a presentation, requiring no advance preparation. 

For thirty years, Clay Small worked for PepsiCo, Inc. where he was the general counsel of nearly all of PepsiCo's current and former divisions, including Frito-Lay, Pepsi-Cola, Pizza Hut, Kentucky Fried Chicken, and PepsiCo Wines & Spirits.  Clay served as the senior vice president - managing attorney, PepsiCo, Inc.  In that position, he was responsible for all legal matters arising out of PepsiCo's global operating divisions.  

Clay received his JD from Southern Methodist University (member of Law Review and Barristers) and received his BA in English from Ohio Wesleyan University, where he was a two-time All American soccer player. 

He is a professor within the Cox School of Business at SMU and is a member of the Law School Executive Committee.    

He frequently teaches at universities in Europe, and will be teaching in Amsterdam during Fall semester of 2017.  

He recently released his first novel, 'Heels Over Head.'
