The TI Calculators were alot of help in calculating the time value of money, Net Present Value, and Internal Rate of Return.  I would highly recommend that you use a calculator for these types of problems.  You will save on average, 10 minutes during the exam.  Keep in mind that the calculator will give you exact numbers where as the rate charts are rounded.  So your answer using the calculator will not be EXACTLY what the number would be if you used the chart, but will be close enough to figure out the correct answer.

    Hi,

but according to my knowledge, financial calculators are not allowed to enter the exam. the only allowed calculators are the simple ones.

    please advise about this issue.

    best regards,

Though the BA II plus is permitted by IMA, the pro-metric center may prevent you using that.
It is better to confirm from the testing center which you will be giving exam (tentative).
Otherwise it is better to practice with basic calculator, so that will not get trouble at the exam time.

    Hi Rakesh,

    I agree with Brandon 100%.

Have you solved a problem on capital budgeting similar to the "Metro Industries" question (if you have Gleim or Wiley/IMA) where you are asked for the project's NPV? This problem involves MACRS depreciation, unequal cash flow and time value of money. Time your calculation using a standard casio calculator and see if you will be able to compute the correct answer in under 6 minutes.

Now, if you'd be using a TI or any financial calculator that you are accustomed using, you should be able to solve this same problem in under 3 minutes, and this already includes reading the important facts.

In solving this problem alone you will save at least 3 minutes. If you get lucky, you might find about 6-8 TVM questions in your set. You should seriously consider using a financial calculator.

The Testing center will let you take the TI BA 2 in.  There are a few different financial calculators that are approved.  If you are worried then just take the IMA guide in and have it for reference if they question you.

The tables are available as a button to click.  They are not hard copies.  So they are a little difficult to use.  If you chose to use the tables and a simple calculator then you will be wasting alot of time.  You really should just get an approved financial calculator and learn how to use it.  There is some setting up that you have to do so that they calculator calculates the numbers how you want, but there are several guides on you tube or on the internet that show you how to set it up.  Takes about 30 seconds..
