President's Message

To my fellow members:

We are grateful to IMA Member Greg Lainas for stepping into the April meeting slot at the last minute. He provided an interactive session discussing the economic challenges related to hiring and retaining employees. We had several guests attend with our members and a lively conversation ensued. To help us out with the retention issue, IMA Global is offering our members a free e-learning course. Check the link out “Enhancing the Employee Experience”.

It also seems “Fraud” is in everyone’s line of sight lately, especially as there has been an uptick during the economic turmoil, in part, created by the Covid epidemic. The NorthEast Regional Council just held a Saturday quarterly session with Fraud and Cybersecurity highlighted. The Rhode Island Chapter had a scheduled online Fraud talk at the end of April. And, our chapter also has a scheduled Fraud topic for the May 17th meeting at the USS Chowder Pot in Hartford. At this meeting, we will also be joined by the Connecticut Chapter of the ACFE (Association of Certified Fraud Examiners). LeeAnn Manning and Andrew Taffurelli of Floyd Advisory LLC will be joining us to speak on occupational fraud and abuse.

One method to battle fraud is to continue emphasizing and training on Ethics. Ethics is a central tenet of the IMA with CMA’s being required to have 2 CPEs each year. In line with IMA’s commitment to upholding the highest ethical standards, members now have unlimited access to all IMA ethics courses for free. This exclusive member discount will be automatically applied at checkout. I encourage you to take advantage of this important benefit.

We recently elected board members for 2022-2023 and I thank you for trusting me with another term as your President. We would love to see some fresh faces, so please join us at our next board meeting on May 10th. If interested in serving, email will also start Summer Planning in June for the new fiscal year (Jul 22-Jun 23). Registration is also open now for the Hartford Chapter 100-year celebration on June 8, 2022 at Hawks Landing in Southington.Members are free. Guests are $20. There will be tasty food, great entertainment, and exciting dignitaries. We want a great turn-out. Please join us!

I also want to mention that our chapter is very lucky to be part of an active Council, the IMA NorthEast Regional Council (NERC). NERC is also seeking to fill Board positions for the new fiscal year.   If you have any interest in participating on their Board or just on a Committee, you can also discuss this with our chapter member Linda at
