President's Message

Happy Holidays to you!

As we enter the new year, we hope one of your resolutions will be to attend Hartford Chapter meetings in order to keep
up-to-date on professional topics important to your career. We had a nice turnout at our new venue, the U.S.S.
Chowder Pot in Hartford. Our featured speaker, Tony Switajewski, CPA, from BlumShapiro & Co. focused on
understanding Nexus and out-of-state tax obligations. Did you know that in some states, you can be held personally
financially responsible for the failure to file S&U taxes? That surprised many of our attendees.

Our next educational session will be held at Indian Hill Country Club in Newington, Tuesday, January 16th. Our featured
speaker will be Mitz Carr – Principal, Blueprint Benefit Advisors; topic “Healthcare: What’s New, What’s Not And How
Much Will It Cost?”. With the changes coming from our current administration, doesn’t it seem prudent to find out what
may be affecting your businesses in the future? Easy solution! Simply RSVP and attend the meeting.

Want to accelerate your career in 2018? Studies show that a CMA designation will increase your earnings potential
exponentially. Maybe this is the year you decide to commit to earning your CMA designation. We want to help you
along with this commitment. Plans are underway for a CMA study group beginning in January. Watch your email for
info in the coming weeks. Should you have questions, reach out to our CMA Director, Claude-Helene McIntyre, or our
Membership Director, John Fortin (Board contact info is on our IMA Hartford Chapter website...check out the new
format). And don’t miss the opportunities offered by The NorthEast Regional Council. They are taking reservations for
the session on Saturday, January 27th at Bay Path University in Longmeadow, MA. See details below and at
http://www.nerc.imanet.org. Consider bringing a friend and/or colleague along!

Please note a change in our method of delivering your news about the Chapter. We have been sending out newsletters
by snail mail monthly. In 2018, we will stop sending it by USPS and rely on email and our websites/social media
platforms to get the news out. Like us on these platforms and don’t miss out!

We are also looking to get fresh ideas and faces on our Board. Nominations are coming up. Please contact Chris West
at cwest@travelers.com if you are interested in making a difference... big or small. It’s also a great addition to your
resume. We welcome all!

As we all wrap up this calendar year and look forward to new opportunities, joy and good cheer, I wish you all a blessed
holiday and new year.

Best regards,
Linda Martin, Hartford Chapter President, 2017-2018
