President's Message

Greetings All!

As mentioned last month, I and several of our chapter members traveled to Indianapolis to attend the IMA ACE18 Annual Conference and Expo. The topic tracks which included leadership, fraud, ethics, technology, strategy, competitive analysis and the latest hot accounting topics proves again why the IMA sets the standards for advancing the accounting and finance profession across so many industries.

While the conference is always awesome for learning and networking, this was a particularly special year for our Hartford Chapter. I was very honored, along with our other Chapter attendees, to accept the 1st place Stevenson Division Inter-chapter competition award at the awards luncheon, our first ever placement at the top of the pack. Those of us who attended quite enjoyed all the accolades we received from our many IMA global friends and colleagues.

This year’s conference officially kicked off the start of celebrations for the IMA’s 100th year anniversary. The 100,000 member milestone target was reached a year early; how impressive is that! Next year’s conference will be held in beautiful sunny San Diego. It will be a monumental event as 2019 will be the official 100 year celebration conference for the IMA. It may be a year away but it’s never too early to mark your calendars and start thinking and planning to attend. This is a not to be missed event!

On the home front, your board members have been busy planning the agenda for the next fiscal year. We have ideas for some very interesting topics and speakers and are hard at work securing them and securing locations for our meetings. And, spoiler alert, we are expecting to have a joint CT Chapter meeting for March with none other than our IMA CEO, Jeff Thomson, speaking on the impact that Artificial Intelligence will have on us and our profession. Stay tuned for more information.

Although the Chapter is on a summer break from normal monthly meetings, you still have opportunities to learn, as well as earn CPE credits, with IMA global. I encourage you to check out their many scheduled webinars. Visit www.imanet.org to see what might be of interest to you.
