President's Message

Lincoln Trail Regional Council Team,

I look forward to the 100 year celebration of the Institute of Management Accountants (IMA). I am very excited that the benefits of the IMA are actively being advertised. At the college that I attended, Accounting Professors did not promote the opportunity to become a Certified Management Accountant (CMA). The CMA would have enhanced my career after finishing college. Eventually, I learned about the CMA and passed the examination. I am excited for the members who have recently passed the CMA.

I am thrilled about the commitment of the Board of Directors to promote diversity and inclusion by appointing Linda Devonish-Mills. The IMA and National Association of Black Accountants (NABA) have partnered to embrace a commitment to promote, to members and nonmembers, diversity and inclusion within the accounting profession. Ms. Devon-Mills and I will contact chapter presidents to ask for interest in a two-hour presentation concerning Inclusion and Diversity. I look forward to promoting the partnership between the IMA and NABA.

The Summer meeting hosted by the Indianapolis Chapter was a huge success. We enjoyed food, beverages, and conversations at the Friday Evening event located at Sun Kings Spirits Taproom and Distillery. On Saturday, we met in the Elevate Ventures Training Room and listened to an engaging speaker. After the Saturday meeting, we traveled to Sun King Brewery to tour the facility and dine. Do not miss the the information, fun, food, and fellowship at the Fall Council meeting hosted by South Central Indiana.

The Lincoln Trail Regional Council focuses on the growth of chapters. The Council officers are available to serve regional IMA members.  We would love to hear from you. If there is something we can do to enhance chapters, please share with the Council officers. If there is a topic that would make a good presentation at a Council meeting, share it with us.

I look forward to continuing the discussion on how we can grow and improve chapters over this next year.  Please feel free to contact me with any ideas or chapter concerns. The 100th year anniversary is an exciting time to be a part of the IMA and a great year for the Lincoln Trail Regional Council. I look forward to seeing you at the next Council meeting in Columbus, Indiana on October 26th and 27th.

Sincerely,

Dr. Cassandra Smith

2018-2019 President
